MATT RYDER NOT THE SAME

Birmingham’s Matt Ryder delivers an emotionally-charged piece of electronica in the form of ‘Not The Same’. Synths like subtle sirens create a unique bed for Ryder’s emotive voice, while a selection of lo-fi beats land somewhere between modern indie-pop and relaxed dance music. He explains that the search for privacy in a world dominated by social media was built on the feeling that he was “constantly overthinking everything I was doing and saying. It was encouraged by the teenage society I was involved with. You can never really have a private life when you're young.” Despite sitting on just one debut EP, Ryder’s introspective, occasionally experimental songwriting techniques are already maturing. - Dan Peeke
